Plasma in Medicine and Biology (電漿生醫)
Plasma jet
Atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) has great potential and applications in many areas. One of its fascinating applications is in medicine and biology. Recently, there have been growing efforts on plasma in biomedical research. APPJ has been demonstrated to be effective in tissue engineering, wound healing, surface modification, sterilization, cancer therapy etc. The active species, such as reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RONS), present in APPJ are shown to play crucial roles in biomedical applications. Additionally, the low temperature of APPJ favors the direct exposure to human body without concerns. However, the detailed mechanism of plasma interaction with living cells is mostly unclear and more investigations need to be carried on for better and more profound understanding of APPJ in biomedical applications.
